It is very common for spay tanning solutions to contain an instant bronzer.  This bronzer acts both as a guide for the sunless tanning tech, and as a boost of instant color after your spray tan.  Many people think the bronzer they see is the color they will be, but this is not the case!

The bronzer in the spray tanning solution will actually wash off after your first shower. You will notice a lot of color running down the drain but don't worry!  You still have a gorgeous sunless spray tan under all that bronzer!  Remember that the bronzer is just a guide, so don't panic and shower too early if you feel too dark.  A lot of that color will wash away!

How Does Sunless Tanning Work?

Almost all sunless tanning products contain an ingredient called DHA.  This is what causes you to look tan!  DHA is made from plant sugars, and causes a reaction similar to when you peel an apple and it turns brown from the air.

DHA will only effect the outer dead layer of your skin.  This is why a spray tan lasts 7-10 days!  It comes off naturally as your skin sloughs off.  Sunless tanning products containing DHA last longer, and give more natural looking color results.  It's also totally safe for cosmetic use!

Spray Tanning for Events

Weather is your wedding day, or some other big event in your life, a spray tan can really make you pop in your pictures!  Spray tanning instantly makes your skin look youthful and glowing.  But how should you go about getting a spray tan before a big event?

It's recommended that you get a spray tan a month or so before the event as sort of a trial run. At Home Sunless Tan

Some sunless tanning products come in a spray can formula.  These are great because you can reach all areas of your body with ease!  There are also many lotions and mousses you can purchase!  Remember, when using a self tanner, always prepare as you would for a spray tan.  Exfoliate well and be sure there are no lotions, perfumes, or makeup on your skin!

5 Reasons to Get a Sunless Tan

Ok, so we all know that the sun's UV rays can be damaging to our skin, but that doesn't stop everyone from tanning!  Sunless tanning is a great, natural looking alternative to tanning beds or sunbathing.  Here are a few great reasons to try one for yourself!

1. Sunless tanning can be done in any weather!  You don't have to have sunshine year round to have gorgeous glowing skin all the time!

Spray Tan Exfoliation

Exfoliation is probably the most important thing you can do to ensure a great looking spray tan.  If you exfoliate properly before your sunless tanning session, you create an even, soft canvas for the spray tanning solution to take to.  Thus giving you an even, gorgeous, evenly fading spray tan.

If you are using an exfoliating product not intended for sunless tanning, you'll want to do it the night before because this could contain oils that will leave a film on your skin.  If your exfoliater is for sunless tanning (which we recommend)  you can exfoliate 3-4 hours before your tanning session! Remember to exfoliate and you'll love your long lasting, even fading, gorgeous sunless tan!

What to Wear

Many people have no idea what they can and can't wear to their sunless tanning appointment. That really all depends on what you are comfortable with, and what tan lines you want. Many women go in a bikini, bikini bottoms, or panties.  Men are typically required to wear underwear during their tanning session.

Make sure you wear something you will be comfortable standing in front of the sunless tanning tech in.  Remember that this is what they do, so you really shouldn't feel embarrassed. Also, be sure to bring loose fitting clothing to wear home!  Dark, loose, easy to wash clothing works best.  You don't want to wear anything too tight that may rub off the spray tanning solution!
