Spray Tanning for Events

Weather is your wedding day, or some other big event in your life, a spray tan can really make you pop in your pictures!  Spray tanning instantly makes your skin look youthful and glowing.  But how should you go about getting a spray tan before a big event?

It's recommended that you get a spray tan a month or so before the event as sort of a trial run. It would be horrible to have ill results from spray tanning, and then have to live with it in your pictures!  Go somewhere professional and get one done before hand, that way you know exactly what it's going to look like.  The tan that you will wear for your event should be sprayed about 2 days before your big day.  Remember that if you are going to be wearing a wedding dress, or anything else light colored getting sprayed with a clear spray tanning solution is a good option.  That way there is zero chance of rub off on your dress!

Keeping Your Tanning Gun Clean

It's so important to keep your spray tanning gun clean!  If your gun gets gunked up and dirty, it will without a doubt show through in your spray tans.  Splotchy uneven sunless tans are typically due to clogged up equipment.  Good thing its super easy to keep your spray tanning gun clean!

All you have to do is spray some water through it at the end of the day.  Maybe mid day if you have a high volume of clients.  Fill your solution cup with water and spray it through your spray tanning gun.  If it's super clogged use some airbrush/hvlp cleaner!  You can dilute it, about one part cleaner to two parts water.  Spray that mixture through your gun.  Once you've sprayed the cleaner though, rinse the solution cup and fill with clean water.  Spray the water through your spray tan gun then to rinse out all the cleaning agent!

At Home Sunless Tan

Did you know that there are tons of great sunless tanning products that you can use yourself right at home?!  There are many different application methods of self tanners so you can find one that really works for you!

Some sunless tanning products come in a spray can formula.  These are great because you can reach all areas of your body with ease!  There are also many lotions and mousses you can purchase!  Remember, when using a self tanner, always prepare as you would for a spray tan.  Exfoliate well and be sure there are no lotions, perfumes, or makeup on your skin!

Mobile Spray Tan Tent

If you are a mobile spray tanner, you absolutely must have a pop up spray tanning tent!  Pop up tents are the most efficient way to contain over spray in someone elses home!  They are even light weight enough to lug around with you!

Ok, so we all know that the sun's UV rays can be damaging to our skin, but that doesn't stop everyone from tanning!  Sunless tanning is a great, natural looking alternative to tanning beds or sunbathing.  Here are a few great reasons to try one for yourself!

1. Sunless tanning can be done in any weather!  You don't have to have sunshine year round to have gorgeous glowing skin all the time!
2. Tanning beds and sunbathing can cause premature aging of the skin.  Sunless spray tans can actually improve how your skin looks and feels!
3. It takes time to build up your tan in the sun.  Spray tans can instantly leave you bronze and beautiful!
4. With tanning beds and sunbathing, you run the risk of ending up with a peely red sun burn. Sunless tans will never leave you burnt or peeling!

Spray Tan Exfoliation

Exfoliation is probably the most important thing you can do to ensure a great looking spray tan.  If you exfoliate properly before your sunless tanning session, you create an even, soft canvas for the spray tanning solution to take to.  Thus giving you an even, gorgeous, evenly fading spray tan.

If you are using an exfoliating product not intended for sunless tanning, you'll want to do it the night before because this could contain oils that will leave a film on your skin.  If your exfoliater is for sunless tanning (which we recommend)  you can exfoliate 3-4 hours before your tanning session! Remember to exfoliate and you'll love your long lasting, even fading, gorgeous sunless tan!

Sunless spray tans tend to wear fastest on the face and hands because we wash these areas more frequently.  That's why I always carry my touch up spray!  Touch up spray adds instant color, and contains a long lasting DHA spray tanning solution.

All you have to do is mist the touch up spray onto a cotton ball or cloth and dab onto the area that needs the fix!  It smells great and works wonderfully!  It's also great for any little spots where the spray tanning solution didn't fully develop, or for covering tan lines!

Sunless Tanning Safety

Did you know that there are many great products to keep both your sunless tanning techs and clients safe from DHA inhalation?  These are sunless tanning supplies such as face masks, nose filters, tech glasses, and wink ease.

DHA is totally safe for cosmetic use, but it is best to not inhale too much of it too often.  Nose filters are great for both techs and clients!  They fit right in the nostrils and will not leave a tan line.  Face masks are another great product.  They are great for sunless tanning techs and fit comfortably across the nose and mouth.  Sunless tanning supplies like wink ease and tech glasses will prevent any solution from getting in the eyes.  Wink ease are great for clients, they protect the eyes, with no tan lines!

What to Wear

Many people have no idea what they can and can't wear to their sunless tanning appointment. That really all depends on what you are comfortable with, and what tan lines you want. Many women go in a bikini, bikini bottoms, or panties.  Men are typically required to wear underwear during their tanning session.

Make sure you wear something you will be comfortable standing in front of the sunless tanning tech in.  Remember that this is what they do, so you really shouldn't feel embarrassed. Also, be sure to bring loose fitting clothing to wear home!  Dark, loose, easy to wash clothing works best.  You don't want to wear anything too tight that may rub off the spray tanning solution!

How to Get the Most Out of Your Spray Tan

Everyone wants an awesome, natural looking sunless tan.  There are a few steps you can take to ensure the spray tanning solution takes well to your skin! Moisturizing, exfoliation, and after care are all important aspects of sunless tanning.

The days leading up to your sunless tanning appointment be sure to drink plenty of water and moisturize.  This will help your skin to be moist and allow the spray tanning solution to absorb as it should.  The day before, exfoliate very well.  DHA only takes to the dead layer of your skin, so you want to get as much dead skin off as possible to help your tan fade evenly.  Be sure not to have any moisturizer, perfumes, deodorant, or makeup on your skin when you go to your appointment.  These things can create a barrier between your skin and the spray tanning solution.  Wear loose fitting dark clothing home so you do not rub off your tan, and do not get wet until your tan has fully developed!

Bronzing Boost!

If you've ever wished the bronzers in your favorite sunless tanning solutions were just a bit darker, you'll love Dark Bronzing Drops!  Dark Bronzing Drops are a great way to add darker instant bronzer per your customers request!

Boosting DHA

Booster drops contain a very strong organic DHA.  Add 5 drops per 2oz of spray tanning solution to increase the DHA level by 1%.  These organic booster drops can be added to any spray tanning solution!  It even comes in bronze and clear so you can choose weather or not to add extra instant bronzer.
