Spray Tan Solution Storage

They way you store your spray tanning solution can really make a difference in it's shelf life! Heat kills DHA which is the ingredient that makes your spray tanning solutions work.  You always want to keep your sunless tanning solution below 73 degrees.

Some people like to store their spray tanning solution in the refrigerator. This is okay as long as it's not an emulsified solution like Kahuna Melange.  If you store an emulsified solution in the fridge it will cause it to get too thick and it will not work.  I like to keep my sunless tanning solutions in the hall closet.  It's cool, dark, and dry.  Store your spray tanning solutions carefully and you'll get a 6 month shelf life!

Using Barrier Cream

Using barrier cream is a great way to ensure you do not get any spray tanning solution on areas where you don't want to develop tan.  Sunless tanning solutions react with the top layer of your skin, creating the tanned glow we've all come to love.  There are just certain areas like the finger nails and palms of the hands where we wouldn't naturally tan, and in order to keep our sunless tan natural looking, we should avoid spraying these areas!

Barrier cream literally creates a barrier between the spray tanning solution and your skin.  This causes the sunless tan to not take in these areas! All you have to do is apply a layer of barrier cream to the finger nails, toe nails, palms of the hands, or anywhere you do not want the tan to develop.  After you are done spraying wipe the barrier cream off with a damp cloth.  It also works great on any dry patches you might have.  Spray tanning solution tends to over absorb in dry skin, and if you put a thin layer on barrier cream in those dry areas, the solution will absorb as it should!

Why Exfoliate?

Exfoliating well is one of  the most important things you can do to ensure a great spray tan!  But why is something so simple such a big deal?  Well, it's because spray tanning solution only takes to the top dead layer of your skin.  You need a fresh slate for an even sunless tan!

Exfoliating not only will give you a more even sunless tan, it will help your spray tan last longer as well!  Your sunless glow fades as your skin naturally sloughs off.  So, the newer your skin, the longer it's going to last!  Be sure to only exfoliate before your sunless tan, and not after you develop!  You run the risk of scrubbing off your spray tan!

Sunless Tanning Solution with Bronzer

It is very common for spay tanning solutions to contain an instant bronzer.  This bronzer acts both as a guide for the sunless tanning tech, and as a boost of instant color after your spray tan.  Many people think the bronzer they see is the color they will be, but this is not the case!

The bronzer in the spray tanning solution will actually wash off after your first shower. You will notice a lot of color running down the drain but don't worry!  You still have a gorgeous sunless spray tan under all that bronzer!  Remember that the bronzer is just a guide, so don't panic and shower too early if you feel too dark.  A lot of that color will wash away!

Spray Tanning Attire

What do I wear during my spray tanning session?  What should I wear afterwords?  These are both very good, very common questions!  As far as what to wear during, that's really up to you! If you are over 18 chances are you can go totally nude if that is the tan line free look you're going for.  If you like the sexy tan line look, you can wear a bikini, thong, whatever you'd like! 

What you wear afterwords really makes a difference in how your tan develops.  You want LOOSE fitting clothing.  It's best not to wear a bra if possible as well.  Anything pressed tight against your skin could rub off the spray tanning solution before it has a chance to develop.  Dark clothing is always best, just in case you get some bronzer rub off!

Spray Tanning for Events

Weather is your wedding day, or some other big event in your life, a spray tan can really make you pop in your pictures!  Spray tanning instantly makes your skin look youthful and glowing.  But how should you go about getting a spray tan before a big event?

It's recommended that you get a spray tan a month or so before the event as sort of a trial run. It would be horrible to have ill results from spray tanning, and then have to live with it in your pictures!  Go somewhere professional and get one done before hand, that way you know exactly what it's going to look like.  The tan that you will wear for your event should be sprayed about 2 days before your big day.  Remember that if you are going to be wearing a wedding dress, or anything else light colored getting sprayed with a clear spray tanning solution is a good option.  That way there is zero chance of rub off on your dress!

Spray Tan Exfoliation

Exfoliation is probably the most important thing you can do to ensure a great looking spray tan.  If you exfoliate properly before your sunless tanning session, you create an even, soft canvas for the spray tanning solution to take to.  Thus giving you an even, gorgeous, evenly fading spray tan.

If you are using an exfoliating product not intended for sunless tanning, you'll want to do it the night before because this could contain oils that will leave a film on your skin.  If your exfoliater is for sunless tanning (which we recommend)  you can exfoliate 3-4 hours before your tanning session! Remember to exfoliate and you'll love your long lasting, even fading, gorgeous sunless tan!

Spray Tan in a Can!

Looking for a simple way to apply spray tanning solution yourself, at home?  Try a tan in a can product!  Spray tanning solution, in aerosol can formula is a great method of self tanning!  You can achieve an all over, even, gorgeous tan all on your own!

Spray tanning solution in a can works the same way as a professional spray tan!  You mist yourself, evenly with the solution.  Be sure not to let it get wet for 6-8 hours!  When your developing time is over, you can shower and enjoy your gorgeous sunless tan for 7-10 days!

A Quick Fix!

Sunless spray tans tend to wear fastest on the face and hands because we wash these areas more frequently.  That's why I always carry my touch up spray!  Touch up spray adds instant color, and contains a long lasting DHA spray tanning solution.

All you have to do is mist the touch up spray onto a cotton ball or cloth and dab onto the area that needs the fix!  It smells great and works wonderfully!  It's also great for any little spots where the spray tanning solution didn't fully develop, or for covering tan lines! 

Great Practice Solution

Nervous about spray tanning for the first time?  It's understandable!  You don't want to mess up something that someone has to live with for a week.  Try using some training solution the first couple times!   

Training spray works just like a regular spray tanning solution.  The only difference is that it does not contain DHA so it will wash off after a shower!  The temporary bronzers act as a guide, so you can get the hang of it before you start spraying clients.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Spray Tan

Everyone wants an awesome, natural looking sunless tan.  There are a few steps you can take to ensure the spray tanning solution takes well to your skin! Moisturizing, exfoliation, and after care are all important aspects of sunless tanning.

The days leading up to your sunless tanning appointment be sure to drink plenty of water and moisturize.  This will help your skin to be moist and allow the spray tanning solution to absorb as it should.  The day before, exfoliate very well.  DHA only takes to the dead layer of your skin, so you want to get as much dead skin off as possible to help your tan fade evenly.  Be sure not to have any moisturizer, perfumes, deodorant, or makeup on your skin when you go to your appointment.  These things can create a barrier between your skin and the spray tanning solution.  Wear loose fitting dark clothing home so you do not rub off your tan, and do not get wet until your tan has fully developed!

Boosting DHA

Use some of the darkest spray tanning solutions, and still have a few clients who can't get dark enough?  Try adding booster drops to your spray tanning solution!  Booster drops work great, and can be added right to your solution cup, customizing the tan per the individual.

Booster drops contain a very strong organic DHA.  Add 5 drops per 2oz of spray tanning solution to increase the DHA level by 1%.  These organic booster drops can be added to any spray tanning solution!  It even comes in bronze and clear so you can choose weather or not to add extra instant bronzer.

Solution Scent Customization

Looking to customize your clients spray tan experience?  Having different fragrance options is a great way to do this. With fragrance drops your customers can choose what scent their sunless tanning solution is!

Fragrance drops will work with any unscented sunless tanning solution. They will not change the color of the solution at all, they just add fragrance per your clients request!  Best of all, they are available in 10 different scents!

Spray Gun Cleaning Tips

Dirty, unmaintained guns will cause your spray tanning solution to spit out.  Leaving an uneven, messy tan.  Good thing it's super simple to keep your spray tanning equipment clean!  Here are a few simple steps to follow.

When cleaning your gun, first remove any spray tanning solution from the solution cup.  Then fill the solution cup with one part airbrush cleaner and two parts warm water.  Spray this mixture through your spray gun.  Then remove solution cup once again and fill with clean water.  Spray this clean water through to rinse out any left over cleaning solution.  Once your spray tan gun is rinsed out, spray some air through it to help dry it out. Leave solution cups upside down to dry, and you're all set!
