Using Barrier Cream

Barrier cream is a great product to use along with your sunless tanning solutions!  What it does is keep the solution from developing in areas you don't want to be tan. Typically barrier cream is applied to the finger and toe nails, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet.

Barrier cream is also great for clients who may have dry patches.  Apply a thin layer of barrier cream where ever the dry skin is.  This will keep your sunless tanning solutions from over developing in those areas! Dry skin tends to over absorb the solution, so barrier cream is a great way to avoid that!

Spray Gun Cleaning Tips

Dirty, unmaintained guns will cause your spray tanning solution to spit out.  Leaving an uneven, messy tan.  Good thing it's super simple to keep your spray tanning equipment clean!  Here are a few simple steps to follow.

When cleaning your gun, first remove any spray tanning solution from the solution cup.  Then fill the solution cup with one part airbrush cleaner and two parts warm water.  Spray this mixture through your spray gun.  Then remove solution cup once again and fill with clean water.  Spray this clean water through to rinse out any left over cleaning solution.  Once your spray tan gun is rinsed out, spray some air through it to help dry it out. Leave solution cups upside down to dry, and you're all set!

Prep Spray?

Have you ever tried using a pH balancing spray before applying spray tanning solution?  If not you should!  Prep products such as pH balancing spray will help you skin develop more natural tan color!

Prep sprays help to lower the pH levels in your skin.  This makes DHA develop into browner tones! The pH balancing sprays also help to moisturize the skin, and lightly exfoliate creating the perfect canvas for any spray tanning solution!

It's always a good idea to have nose filters available to your clients!  Some people may worry about inhalation of spray tanning products, and having them available is a great way to lessen that scare.

Choosing the Right Solution

Off color development, such as orange tones can happen when you use the wrong spray tanning solutions on the wrong person.  How do you know what shade to use on one person?  Well here are a few simple guidelines!

Lower level spray tanning solutions, such as those in an original shade are best for those with light skin.  These people are often freckled and are extremely sensitive to the sun.  Mid levels of solution, such as dark shades can be used on the most variety of skin types.  Light to medium tones, those people who typically can tan in the sun look great in dark shades.  This is typically the most popular shade in any spray tanning solution because it works well on most people.  High DHA level solution, like products in extra or double dark are great for clients who already have a pretty good base tan.  These people have darker or more olive skin tones and have no trouble being out in the sun.
